This design pre-dates the arrival of Christianity in Ireland by some 3,000 years. It is thought to be the oldest Celtic symbol and is supposed to represent the 3 stages of man: Birth, Death, Eternity. Available in Black.The spiral is the natural form of growth. In every culture past and present it has become the symbol of eternal life. Surrounded by water as they worked, the Celts (Monks) were constantly reminded of the flow and movement of the universe. The spirals they painted represented the continuous creation and dissolution of the world; the passages between the spirals being the divisions between life, death and re-birth.

It is designed for those who may want to carry their bodhran to far-away places!! Made from quality materials it has a black lizard skin vinyl finish and interior plush padding. It also features coded combination locks for additional security. Not suitable for deep-rim bodhran. -
3 x regular hardwood beaters. Our professionally crafted bodhrán beaters. Our beaters are crafted from wood with medium weight at one end for added swing. Seán Ó Riada declared the bodhrán to be the native drum of the ancient Celts, suggesting that it was possibly used originally for winnowing or wool dying, with a musical history that predated Christianity, native to southwest Ireland. However, according to musician Ronan Nolan, former editor of Irish Music magazine, the bodhrán evolved in the mid-19th century from the tambourine, which can be heard on some Irish music recordings dating back to the 1920s. A large oil painting on canvas from 1833 by Daniel Maclise (1806–1870) depicts a Halloween house party where a tambourine-style bodhrán features clearly. -
